Part I
Maybe it’s coincidence that the plumb bob, the device used to find a plumb line, dates back to Ancient Egypt. As far as ancient (and even some modern) civilizations go, they were pretty on top of their shit.
It so happens that we’re in Egypt now, at home visiting family. And juuuuust when I thought we were settled into our Sa7el routine for the next few weeks—wake up, yoga, shower, work remotely, pool, beach—fungus happened. A fungal infection in my daughter’s right ear, to be specific. GROSS, I know. All semblance of routine went out the window after three nights of religiously shifting cold compresses and ice packs to combat the terrifyingly high fever that came part and parcel. (She is better now, thankfully! Ancient Egypt was great and all but thank God for modern medicine.) But I feel jet lagged again—in body and soul.
