The marble countertop of my NYC kitchen is literally my touchstone. When I decided to renovate the apartment, I had my heart set on only one thing: a stone counter and backsplash that would anchor the living area (my kitchen is smack in the middle of our tiny living space). In a city full of concrete, it feels nice to orbit around a living, breathing piece of stone. Its cool, solid energy grounds me every time I touch it.
We arrived home from Paris late Thursday evening, and I’ve prepared all of our meals at home since (rather than order in—one of my favorite things about NYC), mainly so I can feel like we’ve landed. Like we’re home and that being home is a purposeful thing.
Tonight I made a modified version of Jess Krux’s one-pot salmon for dinner—I highly recommend following Jess for her eaaaaaasy soul food, or at the very least look for this “recipe.” (It’s really a suggestion in a Dutch oven.) I’ve been making it once a week (travel notwithstanding) since she posted it back in April, and it’s L’s favorite way to eat her favorite fish. (I make a pot of lightly steamed broccoli and salad on the side, because my kid is a rabbit.)
